Upgrade Steps for SEPM 12.1 to 14.1

Looking for additional input when upgrading SEPM 12.1 to 14.1. I have SQL running on a different server that will not change, but SEPM 14.1 requirements will not support the exisitgn 12.1 install. I found I have 2 different options (replication or disaster recovery). My plan is to install 12.1 on a new server 2012 64bit and follow the disaster recovery steps, then uninstall SEPM 12.1 from old server, then upgrade the new server to 14.1. Or is there a better option out there? Can I install 14.1 on the new server, and still do the disaster recovery?
