I have a number sites that have their own servers. These servers are GUPs but server as DHCP, file and printer server. Each server for a while has had only AV. Recently I have decided to increase security by adding IPS and NTP. No matter which way I upgrade deploment manager or simply run the exe over top. I get this strange problem where some workstations get the 169 IP address even though im just only updating the server. This tells me client fails to get DHCP lease for some reason.
I've checked event viewer logs on both ends, check DHCP leases and I cannot find any error etc and the only fix seems to reboot the core switch of the site. After all the basic troubleshooting fails.

can anyone share their experience or why this may be happening to clients if i haven't upgraded them but onl server?
