Wish to create Run Book of our SEPM 12 Environment
Hello,
I wish to create Run Book of our SEPM 12 environment. Do you have any advice or recommendations?
Also, where is the link to SEPM 12 Administrator's guide?
Created SEP 12 install package, cannot install on Win 8, but can install on Win XP
Hello,
If we install SEP 12 on Win 8 from the CD, then it works.
But when we create SEP 12 install packages from the SEPM console, but they cannot install on Win 8. However, they can install on Win XP, 64-bit.
We tried running cleanwipe, and then reinstalling, but this keeps happening.
Are there some workarounds to install a SEP 12 package we created from SEPM console onto Win 8?
Symantec Email Proxy deleted the following email message
I know this is a topic that has been coverd on the forum's for an extended period of time. I wanted to share the issue that we are having. We have Symantec Endpoint Protection 11 running on Windows 2008 Standard server, which then supplies antivirus protection to 3 Windows XP machines. They use hosted exchange through a 3rd party and have their email deliverd to Outlook 2010 on their machines. One indiviudal is not able to receive mail from someone at their sister company and they only receive the following message:

Need Assistance "Java.io.FileNotFoundException"
Hello!
I truly appreciate any assistance to resolve this issue.
I using SEPM 11.0.6 on Windows Server2003. I have about 40 computers that I manage. I'm having a very difficult time updating the computers to the latest antivirus definitions. I've been ready through these forums for the 10 hours (literally.) I still haven't found a solution. I checked the scm-server log and I notice the same error "FIle not found." I copied the scm-server log below. Any suggestions or ideas?

Suddenly on multiple Systems: “File system auto protect is malfunctioning”
Hello,
I have a customer with 2000+ SEP 12.1 RU1 MP1 (12.1.1101.401) clients.
Last Friday this error appears on +/- 280 systems:
"File System Auto-Protect is not functioning correctly. Your protection definitions may be damaged or your product installation may be corrupt."
The systems affected run different versions of Windows. Mostly XP, but also different Windows Server versions and Windows 7 boxes.
This problem can be fixed by running a "repair" of the Client.
However: knowing the fix is one thing, but what I realy want to know why this can suddenly happen on multiple systems at the same time.
Thanks for your input.

Database Migrate from 2005 to 2012
Hi Team ,
Method 1:
As per the below link from chethan suggestions, I have migrated SQL database from 2005 to 2012.
After following the steps provided by chethan, we have few issues. Below is procedure which I have done.
1. Backup the SEPM server certificates and properties.
2. Backup the SQL database by using SQL Backup.
3. Uninstall SQL 2005 and SEPM. 12.1 RU1 MP1
4. Installed the SQL 2012 and restore the SQL backup and installed the SEPM 12.1 RU2 and 12.1 RU2 MP1 and configure SQL database as existing Database ,at end of the configuration getting message like that the server exist do you want to overwrite click yes and I click yes.
5. After installation, when I login to SEPM console we are getting unexpected Error, and we lost all client groups which we have created in SEPM. (Groups for desktops and servers). I restored server certificates.
6. After some time clients are reporting to Default Group.
7. For unexpected error I checked all the settings as per the below article. All settings correctly configured like OBDC, local admin rights for Domain account which using for SQL database.
http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH200253
Method 2:
1. Backup the SQL database (Full) by using the SQL backup.
2. Uninstalled the SQL 2005
3. Installed the SQL 2012 STD. Restore the SQL back from backup
4. Reconfigured the SEPM. Clients are reporting to SEPM with correct Groups. But still here also I am getting Unexpected error while login to SEPM.
5. When I tried to login through Web console also same issue.
6. When I upgrade the SEPM 12.1 RU2 and RU2 MP1 in existing environment, with SQL 2005 SP4 and SEP 12.1 RU1 MP1, I have no issues while logging to SEPM , we have only issues when we migrated to SQL 2012
I have below question can someone help me on this?
- Why Clients groups are deleted even if we are using Existing Database, as per Chetan recommended procedure? And why we need to restore server certificates as we are using the same Hostname and Same database.
Install Package won't Install to Group
I recently upgraded the SEPM to the newest release, 12.1.2 MP1. The upgraded completed without a problem, but now I want to test on a workstation before deploying to all on our network. I created a Test group in SEPM with one of our test workstations and I added the client install package to the group with the wizard. It shows it's available in the group but the workstation still shows 12.1 RU1 MP1 and will not update to 12.1.2 MP1.
I was told by support that since I was on version 12.1 RU1 MP1 that I would have to upgrade SEPM first to 12.1.2 and then update to 12.1.2 MP1, which I did, but that the workstations could go from 12.1 RU1 MP1 to 12.1.2 MP1 without having to update them to 12.1.2 first.
I have rebooted the workstation and it still shows the older version. Any advice on what to do?
any way to limit simultaneous push updates from Symantec EndPoint Manager?
We are currently running Symantec EndPoint 12.1.2015.2015 with the Management Server running on a slower Windows Server 2003 box maxed out with 4GB RAM.
The server needs to be replaced, the hardware and especially the disk subsystem is severely lacking, but in the meantime we are trying to maximize performance.
We notice significant slowdown especially, it seems, when the server is pusing out new LiveUpdate content to clients. I can't say for certain, but it appears that the server is pushing the content out to all client (13 of them) at once.
Is this the case? If so, is there a way to change this to perhaps limit the # of simultaneous content pushes? I believe this is causing a significant burden on our network and would like to somehow space out the content pushes.
I see that I can set the client policy to a PULL method instead and have the clients pull down definition updates at a specified interval, say every hour or 2, but would the clients still pull the content simultaneously?
Any info or advice appreciated.
Thanks!
SEP 12 RU2 MP1 Upgrade failed to import Client Packages
I upgraded all my consoles. Followed the Upgrading or migrating to Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.2100 to the letter and each server failed to import the clients.
Tried to add and all I get is an error...and it fails to import. Anyone else having this issue? I migrated from 12RU2.
When Backing up the Database?
We back up the SEPM database weekly. When we back this up does it include the policies and unshared policies for each group we have in the management console. I'm thinking if it's the database then that includes everything. If we ever have to restore the database for any reason then everything configured in the manager console should be there? So there is no need to export a policy as a back up method when we back up the database?
Only Inline Updates for SEP 12
On FileConnect when filtering for Endpoint Protection in the Product Description field, only inline updates show up for 12.1.2 and 12.1.2 MP1. Find it odd that there's no Base Product download for those who need to install SEP 12 from scratch or perhaps it's a typo in the File Type column.

Issue on Running SYLINKREPLACER
hi guys
i have a windows XP machine and it has SEP 11.0.6 client installed on it. yesterday i checked and found that the green dot was gone and the server was showing offline. so i tried to run sylinkreplacer but when ever i tried to run i get the error which is attached bellow. kindly need help guys
Out-of-date AV definition in SEPM but all clients receiving latest AV definition
Seems there is a reporting issue with SEPM.
All clients are reported as having out-of-date AV definitions in SEPM. After checking multiple machines, all of them had received the latest AV definitions. This proved that SEPM was still able to download the AV content from the Internet and distributed to all clients. Somehow the AV definitions information was not sent back to SEPM.
Ran Symantec Validation tool and confirmed SQL DB is in working condition and communicating to SEPM.
Rebooted SEPM and about 10 clients reported the correct information to SEPM within 5 minutes but this number stayed the same since.
Attempted to delete 1 client entry in SEPM, updated policy in SEP and SEPM reported this device as "not reporting status".
SEPM version is SEP11RU7, same as SEP.
SQL DB is on MS SQL server 2008.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.
Query on Reports
HI Team,
We have one SEPM (11.0.6200) in India managing 16K clients and one SEPM (12.1) in Singapore managing around 500 clients and there is no replication between both server.
Now customer requirement is: They need reports of Singapore clients to check whether they are healthy or not but this reports should received from India SEPM server and not from Singapore server.
We suggested to schedule reports on Singapore SEPM but they needed from India server. Also we have suggested for replication but they said we dont want to replicate any goups and policies of India SEPM server.
Requeste you all to please guide how to proceed to fullfill their requirement.
Thanks.

Stop SEP remotely
Hello,
I'm trying to stop SEP remotely on Win7 computers. Tamper protection is running and a password is needed to stop services via smc.exe
No way by Services.msc as all is greyed. Impossible to change startup type of the service and kill the process as well (Tamper ON or OFF)
Psexec smc -stop does not work (Tamper ON or OFF) because the password option seems to not be possible remotely
How to do that ?
Thanks in advance,
Regards
