I was searching about if I can add another SEPM to the existing site that already have one SEPM that have an embedded DB, but when I try to connect to the embedded DB from the new SEPM with the following parameters : existing-SEPM-IP\sem5 , prot : 2638, DB name: sem5, DB user : DBA, so i think I got everything right but i am doubting is this is even possible?

Does anybody have current information on best practices and/or policies I should be using to protect a Windows based, public facing, web server using SEP? I found some general info here and there, but nothing quite as specific as I'm asking for.

as in SEPM 12 on the install package page you can see that there are about 5 packages two from windows, two for linux and one for mac but on SEPM 14 you can only two for windows and one for mac, where are the linux packages, although i did read in an article that SEP 14 support various distribution of linux.

Hello, I have an issue with one VPN app on my Win7, my Symantec endpoint protection 12 causes some issues with using VPN, firewall keeps blocking the VPN traffic, sometimes it allows packets to go through, although I cannot find a pattern and cannot find anything suspicious in the logs, simple test with pinging one server just after connecting to any VPN nodes, I get no reponse.. I verified that it's not an issue of my ISP, but most probably symantec firewall.. Any advice please, what to check in SEP settings ? Thank you

I have a SEPM version 12.1.6MP5 with 250 client. The OS is Windows 2003 32Bit. I have read that upgrade cannot be done on Windows 2003 32Bit. If I install SEPM 14 on a new server, will I be able to restore backup from 12.1.6MP5? Problem is the 250 clients are located at different location. Please help so that I can upgrade smoothly.

When we got Network-Based Protection update yesterday several servers caused BSOD. Looked like specific servers with heavy network traffic.
While analyzing a memory dump we could see this was caused by idsvia64.sys which was included in the latest release update 137 (20170506.025)
When going back to .021 everything seems stable again.
Anyone else having similar issues ?

Original admin (database-based login) logs in fine. I have only one directory server connection setup, that everyone shares, and the directory server user name is a dedicated non-admin user.
One SEPM full admin that is also a domain admin tests out with "Directory account authenticated" and can login fine. All other SEPM admins are not domain admins and test with "Unable to authenticate the directory account". If I place my domain admin name into the Account Name field for another user then they test as "Directory account authenticated". If I place the dedicated non-admin user used in the directory server connection into the Account Name field then they test as "Directory account authenticated". If I place their login ID into the Account Name field I get "Unable to authenticate the directory account".
How do I make this work for non-domain admins?
Periodically throughout the day one of the workstation I work with receives the notification ""Blocked explorer.exe from accessing AutoRun.inf...Autorun has been blocked. Check the control log for more details" which is how SEP should be protecting against Autorun viruses, but my problem is when AutoRun is blocked, explorer.exe crashes and the service has to be manually restarted.
Does anyone have an idea as to why the block is causing explorer.exe to crash and/or how to fix the issue while keeping the Autorun block in place?
The workstation does not have any external drives plugged in when this occurrs.

Hi , after inserting my serial number ,I am not able to get SEP 12.1.6 MP6 to download , I get MP7 for download. And i want MP6 as it is last compatible version for Server 2003.

me and my team have dueling with SEP and netbackup about the backups time and speed.
We use Windows 2008R2, SEP RU7 and Netbackup 7.6. Its under a Vmware 6.0 with 10gb ethernet cars 10gb nfs.
Using this enviroment with SEP Full we can do a ~340 GB backup in 10 hours. Changing to "basic protection for servers" only AV module the time goes to ~5 hours. With no SEP installed (in media and client) the 340 GB is backedup on 1 hour and 30 minutes. ?
We used a exlcusion that came on AV policy to not verify files under backup, and also set a policy to exclude netbackup binary folders to let netbackup proccesses alone and not be bothered by AV.
How can i test if the AV is not scanning netbackup processes ?

How many clients can SEP 14 embedded DB can support?
I know thers a custom install for over 500 clients but it dosnet say u must use a SQL DB for over 500.
I want to use embedded DB with 1000 clients , is it ok?

I am trying to convert all clients on the SEPM from computer mode to user mode so i tried to delete the client from clients tab and then trying to restore communication with the SEPM and selecting policy mode user mode but its not working, your help are appreciated.

We would like to document our current SEP v14 policy implementation.Is there a way to export the policies currently being used, and the groups which are using those policies to a word or text doc?
Also is there a Symantec Best Practices Guide for policy implementation?

1) what these properties are ?
2) are they included in the disaster recovery file ?
3) if i re-install the SEPM or upgrade will i need to import and export server properties ?

I am trying to understand why all web traffic is allowed by default, considering the fact that, on the Firewall Rules window, I do not see the supposed to be 'Allow All' rule
or any rule that would say something like "Allow Web Trafffic for All Application".

I'm running tests of SEP 14 on Windows 0 ltsb 2015 using UWF. I ran in to an issue where SEP was updated but when the computer restarted it rolled back the update. I checked the forums to see if UWF was supported by SEP and it looks like its not; however FBWF is.
I want to know if anyone is rolling out SEP on Windows 10 ltsb 2015 with UWF or FBWF enabled?
