LUA - Internet LU Server Connectivity

Is there any way other than an old fashioned "ping", to know if my LUA server has network connectivity with the Live Update servers on the internet?

I need to check towards

liveupdate.symantecliveupdate.com

and

 liveupdate.symantec.com

The server does have internet access.
