SEP 12.1.x - real-time alerts?

Have i been using SEP 12.1.x (on-prem SEPM servers), all these years and wasn't aware that you can set up real-time alerts for risk detections?  Is the product capable of that or was that introduced in SEP 14?  I recently found out it can be done in the cloud version of SEP SBE.
