LUA and SEPM Question

I have recently installed LUA and got it all configured and downloading defs fine. I have configured the download schedule for the downloads.

On SEPM I have edit the source to pull the updates from LUA but awaiting port 7070 to be open by our network team. I have scheduled SEPM to to run liveupdate and once the port is open it should work hoepfully. I pretty much followed this article:

I have gone back to LUA and reading docs that states I need to create a distribution centre. I'm not sure if this needed

Question: Do I need to create a distribution centre if SEPM pulls the defs from LUA
