Remote Clients

Using SEPM we would like to be able to verify our remote clients are running current definitions and that the client is functioning.  The clients do not need to update from the SEPM and can use LiveUpdate to download from Symantec.  Would the links below be the best way to achieve this or is there a better way to achieve this?
