SEP 12 RU2 unmanaged Mac client LiveUpdate schedule

Appologies if this topic has been covered already, but I didn't see it in a quick look through recent activity.  I'm looking at the unmanaged Mac client included in SEP 12 RU2 and finding some thing around update scheduling a little frustrating.

By default, the unmanaged installer looks to be setting LiveUpdate to run every hour:

LiveUpdate     DefaultLiveUpdateSchedul 1   0   Hourly         04:17  "All Products" -quiet

It does run in the background, which is an improvement over previous versions, but will likely annoy some users anyway.  

Is running LiveUpdate every hour really the intended behavior?  Why?  Over on the Windows side of things, SEP run LiveUpdate every 4 hours be default with some additional settings to allow it to skip if virus defs are recent enough.
