SMC Process and CPU spikes

I am seeing on some SCCM servers SMC process by Symantec is taking almost consistantly 30-40% CPU during the image deployment.

AV+PTP+NTP is installed on these server (Firewall is configured with allow all rule at the top of the rule).  app/device control policies are not in disabled mode.

What is the primary role of this smc process ? can someone will share the full detail of this SMC process ?
