Upgrading SEPMs from Windows 2003 to 2012

I need a solution

I'm looking to upgrade my current SEPM running 12.1.4 from Windows 2003 to Windows 2012. I plan to do an upgrade of the OS to 2012 over the top of 2003.

Anything I should be aware of when doing this in regards to the SEPM configuration? Will I have to do a repair on the SEPM install? Anything default in the Windows 2012 build that SEPMs don't play nicely with?

Also my current setup is two Windows 2003 servers both running SEPM off of a single SQL DB which resides on a separate server. Any issues with upgrading one to Windows 2012 and then say a week or two later upgrading the second one to Windows 2012?

One other question in regards to this upgrade.

Since my servers are VMs I'm thinking about upgrading the performance on them at the same time to assist with the current load on these SEPMs. Currently both are running 2 - Xeon X5650 2.66GHz processors and 3GB or RAM. Both of these servers share the load of 15000 nodes checking into them and at sometimes can barely keep up. What would everyone suggest in terms of upgrading performance? At the moment I'm thinking 4 - Xeon X5650 2.66GHz and 8GB of RAM for each server. Do you think this will be sufficient?

Thanks,

Mike
